Drinking Contest
[RL - Rocket Town - Gaia]

Cid stands outside his front door, leaning against the wall with a cigarette in his fingers; he glances left and right, keeping an eye open for Jordan, and taking the odd drag on his cigarette.

Shera Highwind: default and onlydiatomicbonds on October 1st, 2007 09:05 pm (UTC)
Shera appeared behind him, placing her hands against his strong shoulders and smiling.

"Why are you in such a good mood?"
Cid Highwindgimmemyeffintea on October 2nd, 2007 05:58 pm (UTC)
"Just waitin' for a friend, honey," he grins, turning around to give her a warm hug - and trying not to burn her with his glowing cigarette. "You remember that Jordan guy, yeah?"
Shera Highwinddiatomicbonds on October 2nd, 2007 07:55 pm (UTC)
Shera buried her head into his chest, inhaling the scent of smoke and tea. "you mean the minor?"
Cid Highwind: Hey!gimmemyeffintea on October 2nd, 2007 09:41 pm (UTC)
"I already told ya, I thought he was older," Cid comments drily, drawing Shera into an even closer hug. "Besides, who's really gonna care around here anyway?"
Shera Highwinddiatomicbonds on October 2nd, 2007 09:47 pm (UTC)
Shera sighed, once Cid had made up his mind about something, there was no going back, was there? She wrapped her arms around his waist, "When are you expecting him?"
Cid Highwindgimmemyeffintea on October 2nd, 2007 09:49 pm (UTC)
"Anytime soon," he muttered, scanning the street. "Says he'll be able to find the place, I told him about the old rocket silo."
Shera Highwinddiatomicbonds on October 2nd, 2007 09:51 pm (UTC)
She smiled and stood on her tip toes to reach his chin. Planting a rather chaste kiss there she retorted, "Don't keep him up too long."
Cid Highwind: Hey!gimmemyeffintea on October 2nd, 2007 09:58 pm (UTC)
"Keep him up too long...? He ain't a kid!" Cid spluttered, flustered. "You make me sound like some kinda dirty old man!"
Shera Highwinddiatomicbonds on October 2nd, 2007 10:01 pm (UTC)
Shera pouted, "But you are a dirty old man."
Cid Highwind: Hey!gimmemyeffintea on October 2nd, 2007 10:04 pm (UTC)
"Dammit, Shera!" he muttered, only just resisting the urge to touch her ass (again.) "The neighbours are gonna start talkin' again!"
Shera Highwinddiatomicbonds on October 2nd, 2007 10:06 pm (UTC)
Shera blushed deeply, burying her face against his chest again, "I didn't mean to ..."
Cid Highwind: Yeah!gimmemyeffintea on October 2nd, 2007 10:08 pm (UTC)
"It's okay," Cid soothes, stroking her hair. "Besides... I think they already know what we're like. Heh."
Shera Highwinddiatomicbonds on October 2nd, 2007 10:13 pm (UTC)
Shera was blushing so deeply that if she could bury herself into his chest even more he would. She was babbling about something, but it was muffled through her hysteria.
Jordan C. Wildeglowy_brows on October 3rd, 2007 11:20 pm (UTC)
Jordan had appeared at the town's entrance in a flash of golden light. It wasn't too hard to find: it was the only town on Gaia with the wreckage of some sort of rocket ship on a launchpad. He was wearing comfortable clothes: jeans, tee shirt and a light jacket. No need to impress anyone or dress fancy. This was a social call, a time to unwind and have fun!

He made his way toward the small house with what appeared to be a cross between a naval ship and a dirigible settled nearby. An older man and woman were standing outside.

"Yo, Cid! Shera!" Jordan waved as he approached, a huge grin on his face.
Cid Highwindgimmemyeffintea on October 4th, 2007 05:51 pm (UTC)
"Jordan!" Cid's face split into a wide grin as he waved back with one hand, the other still clutching Shera tightly against his side. "Glad you could make it! You didn't have any trouble gettin' here, did ya?"

He kissed his little lady on the cheek and slid away from her, heading towards his guest.
Jordan C. Wildeglowy_brows on October 5th, 2007 04:01 am (UTC)
"Nah, no trouble at all!" Jordan said. He held out his hand so that Cid could shake it. "It's a really nice town you've got here. Seems kinda peaceful, really."
Cid Highwindgimmemyeffintea on October 5th, 2007 06:45 am (UTC)
"Yeah, it is now!" Cid grinned, gripping Jordan's hand tightly and pumping it furiously before letting go. "Shoulda seen it a few years back, the place was bustlin' with ShinRa scientists and such! What a place."

He stared at Jordan for a few seconds as if considering something, his cigarette hanging out of the corner of his mouth.

"Uh... don't think me rude for askin' this or anything, but... how old are ya?"
Shera Highwinddiatomicbonds on October 5th, 2007 10:08 pm (UTC)
Shera rolled her eyes before kissing Cid on his cheek and disappearing the house. "Have fun you too."
Jordan C. Wilde: Goofy Gringlowy_brows on October 7th, 2007 04:24 am (UTC)
Jordan was taught by his father that you could tell a lot about a man based on his hand shake. Cid had a strong, friendly grip, enthusiatic, even. Jordan could tell he was going to like this guy already.

"I bet you had something to do with the town looking so nice, huh?"

He paused a moment at Cid's question. "I'm uh ... I'm twenty years old. Where I come from, I've been legal since I was seventeen!"
Cid Highwindgimmemyeffintea on October 7th, 2007 07:17 pm (UTC)
"Twenty?" Cid splutters a little, glancing back at Shera. "Uh... right. I thought you were... uh... a little older." He decided not to mention to Jordan that he'd thought the other man was over thirty. It probably would have sounded rude.

"I didn't really have much to do with buildin' this place," he continued, taking a moment to look around at Rocket Town. "This place kinda prospered when ShinRa decided to make it the centre of its Space Program, but after the money for that ran out, it got quiet." He indicates the large space to one side of the town, where a large pile of metal and girders juts into the sky. "That's where the rocket used to be... only got to fly the thing once, but damn, she was @#*%in' beautiful."

Jordan C. Wildeglowy_brows on October 7th, 2007 10:53 pm (UTC)
Jordan laughed a little at Cid's startled look. "You thought I was older? Heh, guess it's cause I've just gotten my first peach fuzz." He rubbed a little at the tuft of dark hair on his chin.

"So, you're an astronaut, I take it?" He looked wistfully at the remains of the rocket ship. "My grandfather was a pilot, too. He was an explorer and discovered worlds beyond the stars. I tried to follow in his footsteps, but I guess not everyone is meant to fly."

Jordan forced a smile. "So, uh ... guess we should head to the Shera, huh?"
Cid Highwindgimmemyeffintea on October 9th, 2007 04:59 pm (UTC)
"I thought peach fuzz was what you got on your ass?" Cid remarked drily, a grin on his face. "Ah well, gues I'm getting mixed up again, huh? Anyway, yeah, I... well... I'm a pilot."

He stared wistfully at the girders of twisted metal.

"Made it into space once, I guess..."
Jordan C. Wilde: Smile Sadlyglowy_brows on October 9th, 2007 05:08 pm (UTC)
"My girlfriend pilots star racers. Course, I tried to learn to fly a back in the academy, but my flight instructor retired after teaching me." He gave a nervous laugh. "I was probably the worst wash-out in the entire history of the academy!"

He smiled a little as Cid fell into a reverie. "Once is enough, isn't it? Most people can only dream of seeing Earth from space. Only a few brave men and women actually get to see it with their own eyes."
Cid Highwindgimmemyeffintea on October 10th, 2007 04:24 pm (UTC)
"Yeah, it's pretty cool to be up there in the blackness, looking down on this big ball o' junk..." Cid grinned, pleased to share a moment of reminiscence with the younger pilot. "Knowing that one wrong move could send your whole ship crashing down into the atmosphere... hey, you can't be that bad a pilot or you wouldn't still be here!"

He laughed and clapped a hand on Jordan's shoulders.

"That's enough girl-talk, anyway. Let's get to the drinking! The beer's stashed on the Shera!"
Jordan C. Wildeglowy_brows on October 13th, 2007 01:34 am (UTC)
"All right! Lead the way!" Jordan said as he follwed Cid's lead toward the Shera. "How about showing me around the place, and then we'll get down to business?"
Cid Highwindgimmemyeffintea on October 13th, 2007 11:10 am (UTC)
"Sure thing!" Cid grinned, waving to Shera (the woman, not the airship) as he led the way towards the Shera (the airship, not the woman.) It was parked a short distance away from the main town, needing a large enough space to lan so as not to crush any of the buildings or wayward bystanders. The deck stood many feet above them, and Cid grabbed onto a ladder which hung over the side, hauling his way up to the deck and waiting for Jordan to climb up after him before pulling the rope ladder up onto the deck beside them. "This way, Shera can't come up and nag me!"

((OOC: In case you haven't seen it, it looks like this and is BIG: http://www.ffcompendium.com/misc/7ac-shera.jpg))
Jordan C. Wilde: Calm and Contentglowy_brows on October 13th, 2007 10:58 pm (UTC)
Jordan whistled long and low as he pulled himself onto the main deck. He couldn't imagine how something so archaic could possibly fly; it looked like something out of a steam-punk novel, not like the sleek aircraft that he was used to seeing at the Space Academy.

"She's a beaut," Jordan said in awe.

((Ah yes, I've played the game and saw the movie. Wasn't it called the Highwind at first?))
Cid Highwindgimmemyeffintea on October 14th, 2007 11:05 am (UTC)
"Isn't she just?" Cid grinned, beaming with pride. "Fixed her up myself, from prow to stern. You won't find a finer ship from here to Midgar." He slapped a metal panel to emphasise the point. "You been on an airship before?"

((OOC: In FFVII his airship was the Highwind... as far as I know, the Shera in Advent Children is a completely new model. Talk about Pimp My Ride.))
Jordan C. Wilde: Surprisedglowy_brows on October 15th, 2007 02:14 am (UTC)
"Can't say that I have," Jordan said. He gazed at the gleaming metal panels. "I've only flown in the flight sims at the academy. And I rode shot-gun in the Whizzing Arrow, the star-racer Eva piloted."
Cid Highwindgimmemyeffintea on October 16th, 2007 04:40 pm (UTC)
"Star-racer?" Cid raised his eyebrow in interest as he opened the door to the bridge, leading Jordan into an area paned with glass windows and a large ship's wheel at its centre. "What's a star-racer? That some kind of rocket ship?"

It was obvious that he'd been preparing for their social meet-up, as crates of beer were stacked in various piles around the ship's wheel.
Jordan C. Wilde: Goofy Gringlowy_brows on October 17th, 2007 12:50 am (UTC)
"A star-racer," Jordan said, "is a ship with a highly advanced propulsion system that allows it to hover several meters in the air and fly at speeds up to 200 kilometers per hour. They're recreational vehicles used specifically for racing, not really suitable for driving on the street."

Jordan's eyes widened a bit at the old-fashioned interior. He placed his hand on the smooth wood of the wheel, the wood worn smooth from constant use. It was just like being inside a dirigible's wheelhouse. He noticed the crates of beer and his face split into a huge grin.

"You sure you brought enough booze? I can be a pretty heavy drinker when I want to be. Part Irish on my mom's side of the family."
Cid Highwindgimmemyeffintea on October 17th, 2007 11:48 am (UTC)
"Irish? That some kinda monster?" Cid asked, not familiar with the races of Earth. "I like the sounda your star-racers, though... wouldn't mind a spin in one sometime. Shera'd probably kill me, though."

He strolled over to the fist crate and pulled out a couple of cans, throwing one at Jordan and cracking one open himself.

"You're asking me whether I brought enough? HA! I'm wonderin' whether I shoulda brought some cushions for you to fall onto when you pass out!"
Jordan C. Wildeglowy_brows on October 18th, 2007 12:48 am (UTC)
"Well, if you ever come to my world someday, I'll let you meet Stan and Koji, our two mechanics during the Great Race. I bet Eva could pull a few strings and let you sit behind the wheel of the Whizzing Arrow III."

Jordan caught the can lobbed at him and pulled the tab. It hissed and fizzed for a bit and the young man quickly took a gulp.

"Are you kidding me? Have you seen Otto? That guy could out drink an elephant, and I managed to keep up with him pretty damn well! Course, we ended up passing out together, so ..." He took another gulp. "It was a weird night, that's for sure."
